How Density Units Relate
Density units combine a mass unit with a volume unit. Because volume scales as the cube of length, converting between metric and US customary density units means combining the mass ratio (pound to kilogram) with the length ratio cubed (foot to meter), which is why the conversion factor looks less intuitive than a simple length or weight conversion.
