Force Converter

Convert between newtons and pounds-force using the exact standard-gravity definition.

Works for any combination of the units above -- every value converts through the same verified base-unit math used on the individual pages.

How Force Units Relate

Force units reduce to the newton, the SI unit defined as the push or pull needed to accelerate 1 kilogram by 1 meter per second squared. Pound-force, the US customary unit, is defined by taking a pound-mass and applying standard Earth gravity to it, which is why its exact value depends on the standard gravity constant (9.80665 m/s²) as well as the pound-mass definition.
