How Torque Units Relate
Torque, the rotational equivalent of force, combines a force unit with a distance unit. The pound-foot (or foot-pound) combines the US pound-force with the foot; the newton-meter combines the SI newton with the meter. Because both are built from already-exact force and length definitions, the conversion between them is exact but not round.
